these butternut squashes sold throughout France contain a dangerous pesticide

Although labeled “organic”, butternut squash sold throughout the country are the subject of a product recall because they contain a dangerous pesticide.

It is not only with wild-picked mushrooms that you need to be careful, certain products bought in stores can also be dangerous for your health. After a coffee sold at E. Leclerc contaminated by mold, mussels sold in supermarkets and fishmongers not to be consumed or even cartons of Candia milk presenting an organoleptic defect, it is a vegetable that has just been recalled.

The site Consumption reminder specifies that butternut squash must be brought back. This food, also called “doubeurre” and yet perfect for the season, should not be consumed due to a risk of the presence of phytosanitary residues. Tagged “organic”, the squash in question could indeed contain unauthorized phytosanitary productsin particular the insecticide chlordane (banned since 1992 in France and endocrine disruptor, therefore carcinogenic, recalls Health Magazine).

“Organic” butternut squash to bring back to the store

What butternut squash are these? Those of the Bio Village brand, sold individually in E. Leclerc stores throughout France between October 18 and 21, 2023. The batches concerned are COP J 18, COP J 19 and COP J 20. The packager code is EMB for all three.

If you purchased any, do not consume them and return them to the point of sale. You can contact consumer service on 08 00 86 52 86 until November 11, 2023, the date the recall procedure ends. You will be reimbursed if you are affected by this product recall, imposed by prefectural decree.

Peanut-shaped, butternut squash is very popular in the fall. It is eaten in particular as gratin, stuffed, roasted, in soup or with pasta-based recipes. Its season extends from September to the end of October. A short period to enjoy its flavors. This reminder should not discourage amateurs and those curious to taste this low-calorie vegetable rich in beta-carotene (and therefore antioxidant power).
