While Germany is preparing for the corona wave expected in autumn, this does not seem to play a role abroad. In most regions – despite the high number of infections – there is no longer a mask or isolation requirement. Will that change again in the fall? An overview:
UK: No action despite overburdened healthcare sector
Despite the persistently high number of infections, the pandemic in Great Britain is considered to be over. You hardly see masks in shops or public transport anymore, and even those who are infected are no longer required to isolate themselves. There is also no longer any talk of shallower measures – despite an extremely overloaded health service.
Greece: Masks only in local transport and the health sector
Most of the corona measures were abolished in May – since then, masks have only been compulsory in the health sector and in local public transport. As a result, the number of new infections rose sharply in the summer, with tourist regions in particular being affected. A decision on possible measures is not expected until September.
Italy: Masks compulsory on public transport
Although the number of infections in Italy is significantly higher than in summer 2021, Corona plays no role in public. Almost all measures have been abolished, only the obligation to wear masks on public transport is reminiscent of the pandemic. Autumn seems far away, nobody is talking about restrictions yet.

Netherlands: New round of vaccinations from September
Corona is very far away for the Netherlands. So far, the government has only announced one further round of vaccinations from September. In addition, the various sectors of society such as culture, sport or education were asked to make suggestions on how they can remain open even with a new wave of infections. However, there are no concrete plans yet.
Poland: No restrictions for travelers
In Poland, all restrictions such as the mask requirement have been lifted since March 28th. The Ministry of Health continues to call for social distancing and frequent hand washing. There are also no longer any restrictions for those entering the country. It is not yet known whether there will be new measures and rules in autumn.
Switzerland: No plans for new measures
Switzerland lifted all corona rules including quarantine or isolation regulations for infected people in spring and currently has no plans for new measures. Even in the summer weeks when the number of infections was high, there were no restrictions because the hospitals were not overloaded.
Spain: Masks compulsory on public transport
The Spanish government is not planning any new restrictions on public life or other requirements to contain Corona for autumn and winter. Masks are currently still compulsory on public transport. It should be retained. A new vaccination campaign is expected to start in the fall.
France: New rules if the situation worsens
The government has just lifted the last entry rules and restrictions in the fight against the corona virus. Basically, however, it was made clear that if the situation worsened, some of the Corona rules could return.

Austria: No quarantine for corona infected people
The motto of the government is: “We have to live with the virus”. Accordingly, the quarantine requirement for people infected with corona was lifted on August 1st. In the upcoming school year, infected teachers – like other employees – should therefore be allowed to work with FFP2 masks, provided they feel fit enough. The government has also drawn up a variant plan based on four possible scenarios, depending on the danger of any new virus mutant.
Denmark: New plans for different scenarios
The government is firmly anticipating a wave of infections in autumn from the omicron variant, but also considers a more dangerous corona variant to be possible. Different plans have been prepared for these different scenarios. In addition, one wants to protect the most vulnerable groups – for example with further booster vaccinations and regular tests.
