VS’is a rather original cutout. Some inhabitants of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, in Vendée, depend in many areas on the town of Saint-Christophe-du-Bois, a neighboring town located in Maine-et-Loire, relays West France. School transport, household waste, police, elections: the residents of the Saint-Lazare district share their daily life with another municipality, but also with another department.
A situation that annoys residents of the municipality of Saint-Christophe-du-Bois. In question, multiple works carried out on the road which separates the district in two. Initiated for several years, they do not advance. The connection to mains drainage, the change of water pipes, the modification of public lighting… The grievances are legion. Especially since the road has deteriorated and is dotted with bumps and holes.
“A feeling of abandonment”
Faced with the problem, a petition was launched by a resident of Saint-Christophe-du-Bois. And the results are formal: out of 19 households concerned, 12 responded and 8 are in favor of a transfer from the locality to the neighboring town of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre, located in Vendée. “The elected officials of Saint-Christophe make fun of the villages, and favor the town center”, explains Henry Renoul, a former elected official. “We all received a letter from the town of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre telling us that it was ready to do the work, but that it had no response from the community of Saint-Christophe-du-Bois. She can’t intervene! “he says to the daily.

“We have a feeling of abandonment vis-à-vis our elected officials who are blocking the situation. The subject of the transfer of the locality to the Vendée is not new, but it arises today with more insistence”, he indicates. Indeed, another petition was launched in 2013 to modify the municipal boundaries between Mortagne-sur-Sèvre and Saint-Christophe-du-Bois. Without success.
But Henry Renoul does not intend to stop there. He will send a letter to the prefect and request a consultation between the two mayors in order to settle the work, estimated at 130,000 euros, but also to finally carry out the transfer of the locality to Mortagne-sur-Sèvre.
