INVESTIGATION – Taking advantage of the law on the duty of vigilance, a handful of NGOs are increasing the attacks against the groups. Their sometimes muscular methods are worrying.

Spray paint on the facade of the La Défense headquarters, signs “You collect, we suffer”: the NGOs Alternatiba Paris and Les Amis de la Terre spectacularly welcomed the annual results of TotalEnergies, on February 8th. An action revealing a new militancy. Gone are the days when associations for the defense of the environment or human rights challenged governments above all. For several years, they have also targeted large companies, considering that the latter have a major economic and social weight. And for this, some NGOs do not hesitate to carry out operations punches, especially during general meetings (GA) of shareholders.

In May 2022, more than a hundred people, including members of Greenpeace, Alternatiba and Friends of the Earth, tried to block access to that of TotalEnergies; the police had to intervene. The same month, the GA of BNP Paribas was interrupted by about fifteen activists with slogans…
