In La Fiancée de papa, two twin girls raised separately (one by her father, the other by her mother) decide to swap places to get to know the parent they never really knew. And the idea comes to them quite quickly to reawaken the love between their mother and their father. Except that the latter is about to get engaged and the two teenagers will review their plan…

Twins, misunderstandings, gags and pranks, slightly overwhelmed parents… The Disney recipe that will inspire studio sitcoms years and years later for the Disney Channel is already there! Hayley Mills is perfect in the role of Susan and Sharon (Carole in VF), each having a well-defined register without falling into caricature or bringing out the cliché of twins wearing the same clothes and who cannot be distinguished.
In the purest Disney tradition, this family film is accompanied by three songs, all written by the Sherman brothers – who will later sign those of Mary Poppins and have benefited from a documentary on Disney + – and which add another layer to a long footage certainly calibrated but unstoppable.

- The heroines, first enemies then allies to mend their parents, very well played by an adorable Hayley Mills.
- Sometimes parents separate but still love each other without admitting it. This film proves that we can sometimes show them the way.
- The songs, including the twist “Let’s get together”, remain in the lead for several hours after the film!
- There is no villain! The bride can be seen as the default antagonist, but in reality only their parents’ character is a real opposition.

- Even if it’s for the good cause of reuniting their parents, the two sisters show themselves to be real bitches to drive out the fiancée who gets in the way of their plan.
- It is mentioned that the mother hits her ex-husband when she is angry, we even have a demonstration of it. At the end of the film, the father tells him: “I authorize you to fight me whenever you want” !
- Otherwise, the film is the quintessence of Disney know-how in terms of family films and all audiences. At most the duration can be a brake on the full appreciation of the film for the youngest (2h09 all the same).
