If pharmacists were already authorized to vaccinate patients against influenza and covid-19, they can now administer fourteen additional vaccines.

Since the beginning of November 2022, pharmacies have been authorized to vaccinate their clients against fourteen new infections. If it were possible to receive a dose or a booster vaccine against seasonal flu or covid-19, adult patients can now receive vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, human papillomaviruses, invasive pneumococcal infections, hepatitis A and B viruses, serogroup A meningococci directly in pharmacies , B, C, Y and W and against rabies. What are the required conditions to get vaccinated in a pharmacy?

Will all pharmacies offer vaccination?

As reminded the new national pharmaceutical convention, it is possible to receive compulsory and recommended vaccines and boosters on prescription at the pharmacy. A patient 16 years of age or older must first go at a general practitioner to be prescribed a dose of vaccine, except for the seasonal flu which does not require a prescription. For the time being, this is the procedure for patients, but if the measure is adopted, pharmacists will also be able to prescribe the treatment. No need to go through the doctor’s box anymore. It is important to note that pharmacies are free to offer vaccination to their customers, or not. Your pharmacy therefore has no obligation to offer the administration of these vaccines, especially since in order to be able to administer a dose, pharmacists must have followed specific training.
