Intense tiredness, fever, body aches, feeling of tightness and difficulty in breathing, persistent symptoms … Some people seem to relapse after being infected with the coronavirus. But is it possible?

A second wave of symptoms in patients cured of coronavirus? The question arises because, indeed, some people who had Covid-19 and have recovered are worried that the symptoms will reappear. Some hashtag on social networks, such as # after D20 or # parès D60, have lifted the veil on the testimonies of people suffering from symptoms or observe their persistence … Can we talk about a relapse and, above all, is it's possible ? According to a study by King’s College London, about 5% of infected patients are in this case.

Classic Covid-19 symptoms are usually felt for one to two weeks when it is a mild infection. This therefore takes into account fever, respiratory discomfort, aches and intense fatigue. However, these symptoms last for many weeks after infection for some people who have been infected. Doctors say they receive patients with symptoms 30 to 45 days after their recovery. Doctor Davido explains to 20 minutes : "Many of these patients describing this persistent phenomenon were not detected when they developed, generally in March, their first symptoms compatible with the coronavirus. Some probably had it, others did not. But there are also a set of psychological factors linked to the stress of a totally new confinement which should not be overlooked, and which induced a "maladjustment" to the effort. However, given the abundance in consultation of these patients, part of them must have contracted Covid-19. "

Anne De Saint Amour, general practitioner in Amiens, explains to France 3 : "In these patients whose symptoms persist, there is certainly post-traumatic stress, but it is difficult to assess the percentage of anxiety or real effect of the disease. What we think we know is that 14 days after the first signs, there is no more contagion. "she explains before tackling the way in which medicine is powerless in the face of this new virus:"But we have so much medical information that we no longer know what is right or wrong. What is surprising is that all the virological tests that I ordered came back negative when I had a strong suspicion of covid-19 in these patients. "

Negative tests therefore refute the idea of a relapse, but some specialists, such as the University Hospital of Amiens, are convinced that the reappearance of these symptoms are linked to the virus. Professor Jean-Luc Schmitt, head of infectious and tropical diseases department at the University Hospital of Amiens would like a study on non-hospitalized patients. Their monitoring during their infection, less regular and less precise, could shed light on the pandemic according to him. But the Hauts-de-France Regional Health Agency claimed to France 3 that no studies were underway at the moment. Despite everything, the Parisian hospital of the Hôtel-Dieu has launched two studies on the persistence and resurgence of symptoms.
