On International Women’s Day, women continue to fight for equality and emancipation to this day. A lot has already happened, also in fashion. The male-dominated world of fashion is being conquered by creative women. Duchess Catherine, Queen Letizia and Co. have also noticed this and are increasingly supporting female designers.

Even if women are said to be competitive, the majority has already understood that you can get much further with solidarity and mutual encouragement. Royals are no exception. They attach great importance to the message conveyed by their clothing. Duchess Meghan, Duchess Catherine or Queen Letizia repeatedly support women-led fashion brands with their choice of clothing.

Everyone loves Carolina Herrera

One designer seems to have particularly taken a liking to the royals. Duchess Meghan, Princess Mary, Princess Madeleine and above all Queen Letizia love Carolina Herrera’s beautiful dresses. In the early 1980s, the designer founded her label with the help of her friend Diana Vreeland, among others, and presented the first collection in 1981 at the Metropolitan Club in New York. She only gave up her position as chief designer in 2018, but is still loyal to her company. In the past she had equipped sizes like Jacqueline Kennedy, in 2019 Duchess Meghan wore one of her floor-length flounce dresses in Morocco. To this day, Carolina Herrera is one of the most popular outfitters for the royals.

The British royals love Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney is a seasoned fashion designer, having made a name for herself as chief designer at Chloé before founding her own label. The fact that Duchess Meghan chose a British model as her second wedding dress is still considered a trend-setting milestone in the career of the Beatles member’s daughter. After all, it is a great honor to design a wedding dress for a royal. But not only Meghan is a fan of the clean and sustainable styles of Paul McCartney’s daughter, Duchess Catherine also likes to wear her designs. Although Stella founded her company with what was then the Gucci group (now Kering), as chief designer she did not delegate decision-making power to anyone else and still owns 50 percent of her label.

The Queen of Kitten Heels – Linda Benett

Linda Bennet founded the label LK Benett in 1990. Her goal was initially to create designer shoes that could strike a balance between luxury and mainstream. The label became more and more successful, the Briton is now considered the “Queen of the Kitten Heel”. The range now includes not only shoes, Princess Sofia and Duchess Catherine love the designer’s playful dresses. In 2004, Linda sold 70 percent of her company to Phoenix Equity Partners and Sirius Equity and retained a 30 percent share of the company’s board of directors. In 2017, the designer was able to buy back her company, but had to file for bankruptcy in 2019. However, the brand is still popular with the royals, not only because of the timelessly elegant styles, but because it stands for a female success story.

Kate and her love for Eponine

Hardly anyone in the royal family understands as well as Duchess Catherine how to convey messages about their clothing. Whether wearing a Danish jewelery label on a state visit to Copenhagen or dresses in the style of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, Kate calculates exactly what message she sends with her clothes. It is also important to her to support female designers. She not only relies on established women in the business, but also often chooses smaller labels. For example, she’s a big fan of Eponine, a brand founded by Jet Shenkman in 2010. To this day, the designer is the creative director of her label and thus involved in important decision-making processes.
