Announced last January at CES 2022, the Samsung M8 is a 32-inch 4K monitor with enticing specs. Expected in France within a fortnight, it could overshadow a certain Apple Studio Display while taking up the look of the latest iMacs.

Do you like the colorful design of the iMac M1s, but you only need a 4K monitor? Well, the Samsung M8, expected in France on April 15, is reaching out to you. If the brand does not give any French price immediately, we know that the screen was announced from 699.99 dollars during CES. So count on more or less 800 euros with us. A relatively aggressive price for a product well positioned against the competition, including that of Apple and its new Studio Display… offered from 1,749 euros.

A screen designed to seduce

Available in four colors (Warm White, Sunset Pink, Spring Green and Daylight Blue), the M8 is presented as a smart monitor by Samsung. Understand that it includes an interface based on TizenOS which allows you to launch the main SVoD applications (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + or even Apple TV), via Wi-Fi 5 connectivity, without going through a PC. The screen can therefore, to a certain extent, replace a television set… especially since it is also compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 to display content from an iPhone or an iPad, for example.

Samsung also has the good idea to deliver its screen with a small removable and magnetic 1080p webcam. Called SlimFit, it is installed on top of the monitor and has a face tracking function in addition to an automatic zoom. At the same time, the Samsung M8 has two 5 W speakers and a high-sensitivity Far Field Voice microphone with a permanent listening function for voice control via Bixby or Alexa.

Eye-catching specs

On the technical side, this new monitor also makes a good impression with a 4K panel covering 100% of the sRGB spectrum and rising to 400 cd / m2 of maximum luminance, for a contrast estimated by Samsung at 3000:1. Enough to allow it to support the HDR10+ standard. The refresh rate is however limited to 60 Hz and the response time, rated at 4 ms, which remains suitable for a screen primarily focused on office automation and multimedia.

Unlike the Apple Studio Display, the Samsung M8 finally has a height and tilt adjustable stand. Its connectivity is however quite surprising, with a micro-HDMI port… and not full-size HDMI, as on the vast majority of PC screens. There are also two USB-C ports supporting power delivery up to 65W.

Note that beyond Apple, Samsung also seems to want to compete with certain monitors from Dell with this M8. We think first of the Dell UltraSharp 32 4K (U3219Q), the price of which this time approaches 1,000 euros.
