fun, news, tips… what else?

According to the Daily Mail, footage from an interview with Princess Diana will be released in a documentary next August. A sequence that Prince William would like to see disappear for good…

The interview had the effect of a bomb all over the world. In 1995, Lady Diana granted a interview with journalist Martin Bashir in the show Panorama, broadcast on the BBC. In front of 23 million viewers, the Princess of Wales, then separated from Prince Charles, had notably pronounced a sentence which remained in all memories. We were three in this marriage, she had indeed declared, in reference to the relationship that her ex-husband had with Camilla Parker Bowles, with whom he is now married. However, in 2021, an independent investigation led by former Supreme Court Justice John Dyson lifted the veil on the methods “misleading” employed by Martin Bashir to get his interview. Indeed, it was revealed that the British journalist had been able to collect the confidences of Princess Diana using fake news. For example, he had shown Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, fake bank statements proving that it was tapped to gain the confidence of the princess…

Since then, Martin Bashir has presented his excusesas did the BBC, which admitted its wrongs after firing Marc Killick, the show’s former producer Panorama, who at the time denounced the more than dubious methods of Martin Bashir. But if the British chain is committed to never again broadcast images of the interview and urged other broadcasters to do the same, another channel is set to not honor this request. Indeed, as reported by the DailyMailFriday, July 29, Sky will rebroadcast images of the shock interview in a documentary titled The Princessscheduled for August 14.

Prince William believes that this program “has no legitimacy”

However, everything suggests that this prospect will not delight Prince William. The Duke of Cambridge has indeed already issued virulent criticism about this interview. As reminded by DailyMailhe thus declared, last May, to be firmly convinced that this program has no legitimacy and should never be aired again”. “It effectively established a false narrative which, for more than a quarter of a century, has been marketed by the BBC and othersadded the husband of Kate Middleton, before specifying to be “very saddened” that Diana never found out she had been cheated on. For Prince William, his mother, who died after a tragic car accident in Paris, was abandoned “not only by a rogue journalistbut also by BBC bosses.

For his part, Sky wants to defend himself. According to a spokesperson for the channel, the documentary The Princess “tells the story of Princess Diana exclusively through archival footage from the time, with no commentary from today”. “As a crucial moment – although deeply unhappy – of his life, this interview is briefly presented as a historical momenthe then assured the DailyMail. A justification that will probably not convince Prince William.
