Which countries are still playing for a World Cup ticket?
In Europe there is still one World Cup place open. Because of the war in Ukraine, the play-off game between Scotland and Ukraine has been postponed to mid-June. The winner of this match plays against Wales for the last European World Cup ticket.
Another two World Cup places will be played in the intercontinental play-offs. As South American representatives, Peru have already qualified for the decider, where they will face either the United Arab Emirates or Australia.
In the second play-off game, the winner of the Oceania zone meets the fourth-placed team from North and Central America. From Oceania, the Solomon Islands or New Zealand could make it into the play-offs, from North and Central America it will probably be Costa Rica. The intercontinental play-offs will take place on June 13th and 14th.
In North and Central America, the last round of qualification is still to come, where two more tickets will be awarded. In addition to the Canadians who have already qualified, Mexico and the USA have the best chances.
