Hugh Jackman speaks out about Bryan Singer’s inappropriate behavior on the set of ‘X-Men’.
Director Bryan Singer has faced multiple accusations of sexual misconduct and unprofessional behavior on the set of his films in recent years.
As reported by ComingSoon, Hugh Jackman today returns to the subject in a recent interview with The Guardian, confirming the rumors about Singer’s behavior on the sets.
It was my first movie in America, you have to understand everything was so new to me. I think it’s fair to say there are stories, you know… I think there are ways of being on set that wouldn’t happen now. And I think things have changed for the better.
Bryan Singer, who directed four X-Men films – X-Men (2000), X-Men 2 (2003), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) – was accused by Halle Berry in 2020 of repeatedly engaging in unprofessional behavior on set. In addition to regular fights, Jennifer Lawrence later added that he had tantrums there. Meanwhile, multiple charges of assault and sexual misconduct had been leveled against him, which led to him being dropped from the upcoming Red Sonja project.
While it may have tainted the way fans and those involved think back to the films in question, Hugh Jackman is still proud of the saga but acknowledges the complexity of the situation.
“That’s a really, really complicated question.“, did he declare. “There’s a lot at stake here. X-Men was the turning point, I believe, in terms of comic book movies and I think that’s something to be proud of. And there are certainly questions to be asked and I think they should be asked. But I guess I don’t know how to elegantly answer that. I think it’s complex and ultimately I look back with pride on what we achieved and what momentum it started.”
