These two newlyweds find their wedding ring lost in the Mediterranean: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

The vagaries of life are sometimes surprising, to the point of being close to the incredible. This is the case of the story of one of the alliances of this couple from Lyon, Cécile and Djamel. It all starts on August 15, 2022, while the couple is on vacation in Grau-du-Roi, on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Coming out of his swim, Djamel notices that his wedding ring is missing from his left ring finger. After searching without results on the beach, the lovers resign themselves to prospecting and decide to publish the announcement of this loss on several Facebook groups. Almost a year later, the couple found the precious object, and told their crazy and beautiful story to our colleagues at Figaro, Thursday September 14, 2023. Despite several contacts with detectorists, the couple came to terms with the idea that the ring was really lost. “We said to ourselves it’s impossible to find her in the water and we did not know that the detection devices work in the sea”, explains Cécile. Married for barely two years, they then thought about buying a new wedding ring: “Djamel was tanned and we could see the white mark of the wedding ring, it was torture. But he didn’t want it because this new ring would not be our wedding ring. It’s not the object or the price that matters to us, it’s the symbol“.

Cécile “I had really given up on the idea of seeing her again”

Without much conviction, Cécile posted her announcement on Facebook: “I said to myself why not, who doesn’t try, gets nothing. But I had really given up on the idea of seeing her again“. A few days later, on Tuesday August 22, 2023, she received a notification on her email from an Internet user, Romain, who sent her this note: “Cécile I think I have something for you”, accompanied by a photo of the wedding ring. Upon seeing the image, the latter realizes that it is indeed that of her husband. “It’s a shock. It’s as emotionally devastating as the loss. Everything comes back in reverse and it’s super strong. I cried a lot, I couldn’t talk to Romain. Djamel, usually rather talkative, was rooted to the spot. It’s violent in the good sense of the word.” she said. And to continue: “It’s crazy, but until we received it a few days later, we said to ourselves: ‘It’s not possible, it’s such an incredible story’.” So either chance does things well or it doesn’t exist.
