Moved by the suicide of young Lucas, Yanis Marshall spoke about the harassment he suffered as a child. Painful memories for the Star Academy choreographer.

The suicide of young Lucas arouses strong reactions. Interrogates on the set of BFMTV, Yanis Marshall spoke about this tragedy that occurred on January 7. After unveiling his new look and having poured out his difficult years, the choreographer and dancer of the star Academy came back on the bullying he suffered at school, and the homophobia he suffered.

“I know that kids of that age, it can be very cruel“, he says, referring to the insults and mockery Lucas suffered in college because of his homosexuality. Visibly moved, Yanis Marshall continued: “I find it super sad, personally it disgusts me that we reaches a stage where 13-year-old would rather die than live on“.

The artist known for dancing spectacularly on stiletto heels then spoke about his own past: “I’ve been there […], I was called Yanis the whore all my childhood. It was literally my nickname throughout the city”. In Vallauris in the Alpes-Maritimes, he explains: “I heard the kids who had fun hiding and shouting that all day”.

Yanis Marshall speaks out on Lucas’ suicide

The boy was not “in the provoc’, just different. Instead of playing football with the other boys, I was dancing in the courtyard”. He had to change schools several times.

Yanis Marshall even told a poignant anecdote. One day when he was refugee in the canteen to avoid getting beaten up, the employees told his mother what he was going through: racketeering, pursuit, beatings.

Still a victim of homophobia, the choreographer considers these past events to be due to ignorance and a “lack of education on the part of the parents”. “I tend – and maybe that’s where I’m at fault too – to ignore and not respond to that, and not even see anymore. I’m at a stage where it doesn’t affect me anymore“, concluded Yanis, affected by the tragic fate of Lucas.
