The parents of a 9-year-old child who died of cancer had the unpleasant surprise of discovering that their bank had deducted 138.20 euros in inheritance fees from them when a livret A was closed. La Banque Postale told them that a commercial gesture was going to be made.

In Gironde, the parents of a child were forced to close his A booklet after he died of cancer at the age of 9, in 2021. A tragic situation for the parents which was exacerbated by a charge of 138.20 euros from La Banque Postale for inheritance costs related to the closing of the savings account, reports France Blue.

This news was experienced as a shock by the boy’s parents: Especially since we did not make a declaration of succession following the death of a minor. If we had closed our child’s account two days before he died, we would have paid nothing, explained the mother. Indeed, as it was a booklet A, there are no costs for closing the account. Faced with this situation, the parents decided to approach the association Eva pour la vie, which supports the families of children who are victims of cancer.
