A couple from Pas de Calais was arrested on September 16. They let their disabled son live in the garden, forcing him to sleep in a wheelbarrow.

On September 16, two individuals from the commune of Sallaumines in Pas de Calais were arrested following the discovery of the atrocious acts they committed. This is a couple who let their son live in the family garden only.

A few weeks ago, a young man of 29, with a disability, was rushed to hospital, following a call from his parents where he lived. The man was having a severe hypothermic attack and needed to be taken care of. Once arrived at the emergency room, the caregivers of the intensive care unit chose to plunge the victim into a coma in order to be able to warm him up. Quickly, the doctors noticed, in addition to the aggravated hypothermia, that the young man also had large punch marks all over his body. Noting these facts, the Lens hospital staff immediately alerted the city police station.

A few hours later, the young man’s mother and his stepfather were arrested by the agents, to be taken into custody. During questioning, the couple admitted to terrible acts: their son lived alone in the garden shed, without water or clothes, and at night the young man was forced to sleep in a wheelbarrow.

The macabre confessions of the mother and her spouse led them to an immediate appearance in the judicial court of Béthune, on Wednesday, October 6.
The couple obtained a postponement of the hearing, scheduled for December 15, placing them pending in pre-trial detention.
