In the middle of a food distribution campaign, the Restos du Cœur du Bas-Rhin were once again targeted. For the second time in three months, the association had the catalytic converters of six refrigerated trucks parked near the Strasbourg warehouse on Tuesday evening. “I find it unacceptable,” breathes Sylvie, one of the beneficiaries.
This denounces the act of attacking Restaurant trucks, which house food products that the most fragile need on a daily basis. “I’m shocked, they have no morals. Afterwards, we will demotivate the volunteers, and the day there will be no more…”, worries Sylvie.
20,000 euros in repairs
For the moment, the volunteers nevertheless remain motivated, like Jean-Paul: “That’s not what will discourage us. All these people who are in need, we cannot let them down.” In addition, the morale of the troops was boosted this Wednesday by the vast solidarity plan that was put in place, as underlined by Louis Bernard, responsible for vehicles and logistics.
“We have had a lot of phone calls, particularly from vehicle rental companies. At present, they have loaned us six vehicles free of charge,” he relates, summarizing this gesture with this formula: “Overall , we do our best against bad luck, and it doesn’t go too badly.”
The repair of the six vandalized trucks should still cost the association more than 20,000 euros, or 20,000 fewer meals for the beneficiaries.
