Beautiful, full brows – many dream of that! You can find out here how you can thicken your eyebrows.

Eyebrows protect the eyes from dust, sweat and moisture. In addition to their functional use, they are also simply aesthetic: They emphasize the eyes and give our face a contour.

To cheat on thick eyebrows, there are of course the little beauty helpers such as brow pencil or brow powder. But natural agents can also help to care for the brows and make them appear thicker and fuller. However, there is one thing to consider with home remedies: a little patience is required here – the remedies do not work overnight and require regular use over a longer period of time. And if that doesn't have the desired effect, there are always other options available …

Thickening eyebrows: 4 home remedies

Note: Use the home remedies on the cleansed and make-up stripped face.

almond oil

Almond oil is ideal for skin and hair care. The mild oil provides moisture and is well tolerated. It contains vitamins A, B, D and E as well as many unsaturated fatty acids, such as oleic acid. The fatty acids protect the hair and help to ward off environmental influences. The oil therefore prevents hair breakage and naturally helps prevent hair loss. Due to its valuable nutrients, it also stimulates cell renewal and contributes to improved hair growth.

Buy recommendation: When buying, make sure that it is cold-pressed, sweet organic almond oil.

Application: Apply the almond oil to your eyebrows with a cotton swab every day, let it work in and rinse it off with warm water after about 30 minutes.

castor oil

Castor oil scores with vitamins and antioxidants as well as unsaturated fatty acids that nourish. The oil strengthens the hair roots and thus also the hair that grows back.

Buy recommendation: Also look out for cold-pressed organic castor oil here.

Application: Apply the oil once a day with a cotton swab and use it to gently massage the eyebrows for about three minutes. Then leave it on for another half an hour and then rinse it off with warm water. Perform the application for several (at least four) weeks.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera provides a lot of moisture. It nourishes and strengthens the browbones and also the surrounding skin. Especially with oily skin, excess sebum can clog the pores and affect the growth of the eyebrows. Aloe vera cares without leaving a greasy film behind!

Application: Ideally, you use pure aloe vera gel straight from the plant. Apply it regularly to your eyebrows and rub it in a little. Here you can find out how you can make aloe vera gel yourself.

Coconut oil

The beauty product coconut oil contains many valuable ingredients such as vitamin E and minerals that strengthen the hair roots.

Buy recommendation: Look for organic virgin coconut oil.

Application: Warm some coconut oil between your fingertips and massage it gently into each eyebrow for three minutes. Leave it on overnight and rinse it off with warm water the next day. Do the application every day for a month or two.

Note: Coconut oil is comedogenic – which means it can clog your pores and cause blemishes. So if you have oily skin, coconut oil is not necessarily suitable.

Thickening eyebrows: what other options are there?

  • Eyebrow Extensions: This is a short-term possibility to thicken the brows for a certain period of time. For this purpose, small synthetic hairs are stuck to the eyebrows in the cosmetic studio with a skin-friendly adhesive. These hairs last about two weeks.
  • Eyebrow serum: The serums usually contain prostaglandin – this is a hormone that is supposed to promote hair growth. However, the eyebrow serums are quite expensive and the success cannot always be predicted.
  • Microblading: With microblading, fine lines with colored pigments are scratched into the skin. It is a kind of "hair drawing". This method is very expensive and is carried out in the beauty salon. The shelf life is up to two years. Here you can find out everything you need to know about microblading.
  • Eyebrow Transplant: This is a permanent hair transplant in which, for example, hair from the neck area is transplanted into the eyebrows. The procedure is a complex and time-consuming procedure that is carried out by specialists in dermatology or plastic-aesthetic surgeons and can cost between 2000 and 4000 euros. There are two different methods available for this: The F.U.T. method is characterized by the fact that a strip of hair is removed from the back of the head, from which the hair roots are then removed and these in turn transplanted. With the F.U.E. method, however, the hairs are removed individually, including the hair roots, and transplanted to the new location. This method therefore takes longer, but does not leave any scars.

Eyebrows Falling Out: Possible Reasons

There can be multiple reasons why the brows grow back sparsely, break off or even fall out. Basically, one has to say that hair has a growth phase, after which it falls out and is then replaced. For eyebrows, this growth phase is approximately 30 days. So if eyebrow hairs have just fallen out, it will take a while for new ones to appear.

These reasons can lead to sparse or falling eyebrows:

  • Frequent plucking of the eyebrows: In order to get the eyebrows into shape, they are often plucked … But that also involves risks: The plucking of the hair roots injures the papilla of the hair follicle every time and may cause it to scar. This can mean that the hairs no longer grow back.
  • Deficiency symptoms: If you lack important vital substances such as vitamins, zinc or magnesium, the lack of nutrients can lead to hair falling out.
  • Hormonal changes: For example, menopause or childbirth change the hormonal balance, which can affect hair growth.
  • Medication: Certain medications encourage hair to fall out, as can be the case with chemotherapy drugs or thyroid drugs.
  • Cosmetics: Chemical substances can lead to skin reactions, which can also cause hair roots to loosen and fall out.
  • Other causes: However, diseases such as skin diseases, metabolic diseases, diffuse hair loss, etc. are also possible. But genetic hair loss or long-term stress can also cause the eyebrows to shrink.
