Thierry Mugler, star fashion designer of the 80s, died – 01/24/2022 at 11:42

PARIS, Jan 24 (Reuters) – French designer Thierry Mugler, who ruled the fashion world in the 1980s, died on Sunday aged 73, according to a statement posted on his official Facebook page.

“We have the immense sadness to inform you of the death of Mr. Manfred Thierry Mugler which occurred on Sunday January 23, 2022. May his soul rest in peace”, was it written on the Facebook page of the couturier.

Thierry Mugler established himself as one of the most daring couturiers of his time thanks to his creations with broad shoulders and plunging necklines.

During his career he has dressed stars like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, Diana Ross and Duran Duran.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that another great fashion innovator left our world this week. Thierry Mugler literally shaped the 1970s and 1980s with his spectacular and edgy designs,” wrote Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes. Duran, on the group’s Facebook page.

“I will miss you Thierry Mugler, it was a wonderful time in our lives,” responded singer Diana Ross on Twitter.

In the early 1990s, the couturier had designed the outfits of the supermodels featured in the clip for the song “Too funky” by British singer George Michael, including the sculptural white dress worn by model Linda Evangelista.

Thierry Mugler’s creations were recently the subject of an exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris entitled “Thierry Mugler, Couturissime”.
