Third-party widgets, drag and drop … what we can expect from Windows 11 in 2022

Microsoft is still working on the development and improvement of Windows 11, the latest version of its operating system. The firm is said to have planned to finalize the next big update of the OS for May 2022, before a generalized deployment.

2022 will be important for Windows 11, the latest from Microsoft. It will be necessary to wait until the middle of the year to discover new features provided by a major version of the OS, called Sun Valley 2. The firm has planned to complete it around the month of May, in order to be able to deploy it during the summer. It is also during this period that Microsoft plans to make Windows 11 accessible to all eligible devices from all manufacturers.

Recall that, for the moment, the latest version of Windows has been deployed (in the form of an upgrade) on certain compatible devices only. In addition, a large part of the new features is, for the moment, reserved for Insiders, who regularly benefit from new builds. So far, Windows 11 has mainly stood out thanks to its cosmetic changes as well as a redesign of the taskbar and the Start menu.

What’s new in the upcoming update

Microsoft has not officially extended on the changes brought by this update, Sun Valley 2. In addition to optimizations and adjustments, if we follow the different versions offered to Insiders, it would be likely that Windows 11 natively supports Android applications. The widget panel may well be open to third-party developers, and drag-and-drop, which was gone, could make a comeback. The Weather button could also make its comeback in the taskbar.

The company wants to focus on the quality of its OS, as she explained:

Based on the great lessons learned from Windows 10, we want to make sure that we give you the best possible experience. This means that new qualifying devices will be offered the update first. This will then be deployed over time to marketed devices, based on intelligence models that take into account hardware eligibility, reliability parameters, device age, and other factors. that impact the upgrade experience.

The Redmond giant also clarified that users with an eligible PC running Windows 10 will be offered the free upgrade through Windows Update when it becomes available. For the moment, therefore, it will take patience to see the arrival of big new features on Windows 11.
