Third victory in three days – 80th World Cup triumph: Shiffrin can’t be beat in Semmering – Sport

The pedestal

  • 1. Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) 1:43.26 minutes
  • 2. Paula Moltzan (USA) +0.29 seconds
  • 3. Lena Dürr (GER) + 0.34

Twice Mikaela Shiffrin, then twice Wendy Holdener: The American and the Swiss had shared the slalom victories this season so far. The only exception was the race in Killington, in which Anna Swenn-Larsson was able to celebrate victory at least at the same time as Holdener.

In Semmering it was Shiffrin’s turn again: After a dominant performance in the first run with a lead of more than 7 tenths, she later managed it confidently. In the end, she saved a 0.29 second lead over compatriot Paula Moltzan. There the two fell into each other’s arms – Shiffrin celebrated her 80th World Cup victory, Moltzan her first slalom podium. The German Lena Dürr completed the podium.

Shiffrin made the Semmering triple perfect for the second time after 2016: after 2 triumphs in giant slalom, the 27-year-old also greeted her from the top of the podium in slalom. In addition, she has now lined up 4 World Cup victories in 3 different disciplines.

The Swiss

Holdener, on the other hand, had to do without a podium finish for once. The woman from Schwyz showed two solid runs, but ultimately had to admit defeat by almost a second. Despite this, she continues her strong season – 5th place remains her worst result this season.

It was a disappointment for Michelle Gisin. After the first run she was classified 11th, but in the evening she fell back 9 places after a faulty run. Aline Danioth, 28th after the first round, improved at least two places. Camille Rast lost two places and ended up 24th. Nicole Good, Elena Stoffel and Mélanie Meillard had missed the second run.

Here’s how to proceed

The slalom drivers cannot rest for long. Two slaloms in Zagreb are already on the program for next week on Wednesday and Thursday. At SRF you will also be there live again.
