Directed by Baz Luhrmann, “Australia”, which did not have the success hoped for in theaters, will be released in a new series version on Disney+.
Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, Elvis… Baz Luhrmann has had many successes in his career, but his biggest failure remains Australia, a 2h45 epic film carried by Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, developed over two years.
When it was released, the project did not convince the public and critics. With a colossal budget of 130 million dollars, Australia brought in just under 50 million in the United States.
Fifteen years later, the director gives new life to this feature film. Australia now becomes a six-episode series, completely re-edited with the addition of deleted scenes. The project also changes its title: Faraway Downs – which is none other than the name of the estate that Nicole Kidman inherits in the film.
This new version will be presented to the general public during the closing of the SXSW Sydney Screen Festival in Australia on October 21.
As a reminder, the story takes place during the Second World War and follows the romance between an English aristocrat, Lady Sara Ashley (Nicole Kidman), and a somewhat boorish cowboy (Hugh Jackman).
A release date has already been scheduled. Faraway Downs will be released on Hulu in America and Disney+ in the rest of the world on November 26.
