This accessory turns your car’s navigation system into a computer


If you’ve always wanted your vehicle’s navigation system screen to display an interface similar to that of a computer, there is an accessory that allows you to do so.

Our cars are becoming more and more sophisticated, and most of them now have one thing in common: a screen relatively large which is responsible for displaying the information of the navigation system of the vehicle. A kind of touchscreen tablet on which we launch the GPS, our music, the radio, even a film (when stopped of course). In all cases, the interface will be close to that of your smartphone since when operating, you will mainly find Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

In terms of functionality however, it is not possible to completely do without mobile. The latter is logically more complete in that it is not necessary, for example, to offer a word processing application on Android Auto. Still, some people are clearly looking for this kind of possibility, as evidenced by the success of the KickStarter campaign for AutoPro X, an accessory that makes your car’s screen compatible with Samsung DeX.

This little device turns your car’s navigation system into a mini-computer

Let us first recall that Samsung DeX is a solution proposed by the Korean manufacturer for connect a Galaxy smartphone to a screen while offering an interface close to a computer. However, this is not possible with that of a car. AutoPro X makes it possible. The round object connects via USB to the vehicle port. Then simply connect the mobile to the navigation system as you would on a TV or PC panel.

The main interest of this system is toaccess all the applications on the phone, which opens up many more possibilities than those offered by the on-board system, whatever it may be. Streaming, video games, office automation, Internet browsing… Everything is possible, provided you have a compatible Galaxy smartphone and car. The list can be found on the project’s Kickstarter page, which has already far exceeded its goal at the time of publishing this article.
