American actor Matt Bomer recently said that his sexual orientation prevented him from playing the iconic Superman on the big screen.
In the early 2000s, he signed on to play Superman in a film trilogy, but the door was closed in his face. He is Matt Bomer, best known for his role in the series FBI: Very Special Duo. The reason for the studio’s “no”? According to the American actor, it is because of his sexual orientation.
“I went to a call for applications to play Superman, with auditions going on for a month. I tried out again and again”tell Matt Bomerrecently featured in the Fellow Travelers series, on the microphone from The Hollywood Reporter (about reported by Entertainment Weekly). “It seemed like I was the director’s choice for this role in a version of Superman written by Abrams which I believe was called “Superman: Flyby”. But it never saw the light of day.”

In 2012, actress Jackie Collins was going in the same direction as the actor by declaring to Gaydarradio that his homosexuality prevented him from playing Superman. Shortly after, a source from the EOnline site stated that it is not the sexual orientation of Matt Bomer which had put the latter offside but the departure of the director Brett Ratner.
In 2006, it was Brandon Routh who finally played the DC superhero in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, followed by Henry Cavill in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League. A new film with a brand new actor in the costume is expected for summer 2025.
