When there’s a fire!

Now that the weather is warm and sunny, there is often a smell of barbecues from the Swiss terraces and gardens as early as midday. But it is also the time when reports of fire incidents are piling up again. Not only when grilling, a fire broke out in the household or at work much faster than you would think. A broken cable, carelessness in handling flammable material and overheating are among the most common causes of fire in private households.

In such a case, not every minute counts, every second matters. If a fire extinguisher, a fire blanket or a fire extinguisher is at hand, the chances are good that the fire can be brought under control in the early stages. Would you know where the nearest extinguisher is or whether there is one at all? We asked around the world and most of the respondents in a rented apartment would spontaneously not have known whether an extinguishing device was even available and, if so, where it was.

By the way: Since January 2015, hand-held fire extinguishers or water-extinguishing posts are only recommended in private homes in Switzerland, but no longer mandatory. As a tenant in particular, it makes perfect sense to find out whether an extinguishing device is even available.

Space-saving, effective fire extinguisher

If the worst comes to the worst, a fire extinguisher close at hand can limit the damage, and in the best case even save lives. However, many classic fire extinguishers are large, bulky and leave behind powder or foam residues that, in addition to fire damage, also leave traces on objects. In addition, in most cases they are not suitable for traveling, for example in the event of a car fire. With the Swedish fire protection brand MAUS, MAUS Switzerland only offers one 24cm long and 480 gram fire extinguisher which is handy on the one hand, but also effective on the other – thanks to the patented aerosol smoke without any residue.

Now only 79 instead of 96 francs

This week there is the practical MAUS Xtin fire extinguisher with an 18% discount for only 79 francs. It is no bigger than a flashlight or a pepper mill and therefore not only fits into every household, but is also the right partner when there is a fire hazard. The easy-to-use fire extinguisher is maintenance-free and has a 5-year guarantee.

The mouse Xtin “Small” in the small version is the perfect fire extinguisher for emergencies at home, at work or on the move in the car, on the water, when camping, barbecuing and in many other situations. It looks like a flashlight, the potassium smoke is released at the push of a button and activated for 9 seconds – enough time to extinguish an incipient fire. With a range of up to 3 meters, aerosol smoke is emitted, which encapsulates the fire particles and thus extinguishes the fire.

For which fires is the MAUS Xtin «Small» fire extinguisher suitable?

The fire extinguisher was developed for fire classes A, B, C and F. That means for fires of wood, paper, plastic, oils, fats, petrol, diesel and small electric fires. It cannot be used against embers and burning metals.
