this anime already makes everyone agree, it’s going to bleed

Berserk is undeniably one of the most loved anime. With this in mind, an ambitious new project was recently unveiled, something to totally seduce fans.

Produced by Studio Eclypse, Berserk The Black Swordsman is a project to do justice to the manga story. Unlike the most recent anime adaptation, this project is made entirely in 2D animation and will adapt the Black Swordsman arc, which was used only marginally in the first Berserk anime in 1997, before quickly moving on to another story.

Berserk: a big project

Posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Studio Eclypse, the poster for the upcoming Berserk: The Black Swordsman shows protagonist Guts, the Black Swordsman himself. In the middle of battle, Guts seems ready to face what looks like a huge dragon. This immediately sets the tone for what is sure to be a dark and gritty anime series, especially if it’s faithful to the manga it’s based on. The manga is known for its violent, gory, and mature content, and Studio Eclypse assured fans that this will be the case in the upcoming anime as well.

A trailer that further showcases the project’s progress is also expected to be released in early 2024, although a more concrete date was not provided. For the moment, we can make do with a short teaser of less than 20 seconds. Although not an official project, Berserk: The Black Swordsman is widely considered to be the third Berserk anime. Berserk’s two previous anime series aired in 1997 and 2016 respectively, with only the former adapting parts of the “Black Swordsman” arc. The new series must not only adapt this story more faithfully, but also overcome the negative reception of the second anime adaptation.

Finally a project for fans

The 2016 Berserk anime series was a sequel to the anime film trilogy released in 2012 and 2013. Although the story told remained largely faithful to the manga, the overall quality was heavily criticized by viewers due to the style of CGI animation, a frequent point of contention in anime. Berserk 2016’s mediocre visuals were the subject of criticism.

As a reminder, the Berserk manga was created in 1989 by Kentaro Miura, who died in 2021. Still produced by a new creative team, the series remains incredibly popular, with more than 40 manga volumes to date and more than 60 million copies. copies sold, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. It is also considered a quintessential example of 1980s/1990s grimdark fantasy.
