In 2024, if hands-free applications are no longer on the agenda, hand-controlled applications are in fashion. And you can thank Doublepoint Technologies’ Wow Mouse app for that. This application for Android smartwatches detects your gestures and transmits them to your connected devices.
The Wow Mouse app, announced at CES 2024, is an extension of your Android smartwatch that allows you to control all the Bluetooth-connected devices around you. Enough to adjust the sound volume of your connected speaker or dim your lights with one gesture. Or rather two.
In short, the Wow Mouse application, now available for free on the Google Play Store, downloads to WearOS smartwatches and allows you to control anything with Bluetooth connectivity. These can be Bluetooth headphones, connected lamps, smartphones, tablets, computers, and many other things.
“Instant” Bluetooth connectivity and seamless integration
Doublepoint also revealed new software under the Wow Mouse hood, Human Interface Device Support. This software manages a new wrist movement – the stationary pinch and hold – for connected watches and bracelets.
By wearing the smartwatch and making this wrist movement, users can control their device without touching it, allowing for a “more immersive experience,” according to the press release. Additionally, devices can automatically identify and pair with Wow Mouse.
The app therefore boasts “instant” Bluetooth connectivity and seamless integration.
Partnership with Qualcomm
We’ll of course have to see for ourselves how seamless the Wow Mouse integration and connectivity is. But it’s an exciting new idea that builds on other touch control features, just like the Double Tap feature on the new Apple Watch. And thanks to an announced partnership with Qualcomm, Wow Mouse could soon make its mark on other smartwatches.
“We hope that every Qualcomm device or chip that ends up on a smartwatch will have this feature built in,” says Doublepoint.
Ohto Pentikäinen, CEO of Doublepoint, added: “We are rewriting the rules of human-machine interaction with our touch-based gesture tracking. This is a real leap forward.”
