Since the 1990s, Mariah Carey has dominated Christmas festivities with her essential hit “All I Want for Christmas is You”, from her album “Merry Christmas” released in 1994. This track has become a Christmas classic, regularly making it into the Top 10 most listened to songs during the festive season on various streaming platforms. Since 2019, this song was even the most listened to song at Christmas, thus consolidating Mariah Carey’s reputation as the “Queen of Christmas”. However, this year there was a surprising change in the Christmas song rankings.
According to information from Billboard, “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey was dethroned by a much older song: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, performed by Brenda Lee in 1958. Despite its status as a classic of Christmas, this song had never reached first place on the chart until now. Brenda Lee, who was only 13 when this song was recorded, is now 78 and thus becomes the oldest artist to rank first in the United States.
