It’s not over for the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader, which had been rejected by HBO Max. Amazon just got the rights.
Who goes hunting… loses his series! A few months ago, HBO had stopped the development of six productions to make budget cuts. Including Batman: Caped Crusader, an animated reboot worn by JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. While we thought the project was buried for good, we learn today that it has landed on Amazon’s desk.
The American platform has bought the rights and has immediately ordered two seasons. Good news for DC vigilante fans who have been orphaned by a good Batman animated series since Timm’s 1992 one.
This new version is not a sequel, even if the creator of the 1992 version is part of it, but a reinvention of the character and his gallery of villains in a world announced as “visually stunning”. Warner Bros. Animation and Bad Robot Productions are still attached to the project despite the change of house.
It remains to be seen whether the teams will go with the same design revealed when the project was announced by HBO. They had also unveiled a first poster of Batman: Caped Crusader in the tweet below:
It’s unclear when this new anime series will premiere on Prime Video, but it likely won’t be until 2024.
