Accessories specializing in bicycles and electric bicycles are trying to stand out from each other to offer increasingly innovative solutions, but also and above all safer. This is the case of the Californian brand Giro, which presented a brand new helmet as part of the Eurobike 2022 show, recently organized in Germany.

The Giro Ethos MIPS is intended for urban and suburban cyclists. The idea behind this product is to improve the user’s visibility to other road users. To do this, the helmet offers integrated lighting with four intensity modes. Everything is controlled from a remote control on the handlebars.

Useful turn signals

As specified BikeRadarthe autonomy of the helmet differs according to the mode used: count 2h30 with the maximum power, 5h30 with a lower power (25 lumens at the front, 10 lumens at the back), 7h30 with an intense flashing mode (45 lumens front, 30 rear) and 11 hours with low flash mode (25 lumens front, 15 rear).

On the handlebars, a small remote control allows you to play with the indicators, which are also integrated into the helmet. A good way to keep both hands on the handles to point your direction – instead of using your arm as you usually do. Finally, the helmet has reflective strips to further optimize your visibility.

A high price

On a less technological side, this Giro Ethos MIPS has vents to facilitate the passage of air at the level of your skull as well as the MIPS protection system (Multi-directional Impact Protection System), designed to better protect your head during a fall and impact.

This bike helmet is expected to retail for $250, according to BikeRadarwhich clarifies that international prices are yet to be confirmed.
