A small revolution for travelers! At Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, on March 19, 2024, new 3D scanners arrived in Terminal 2B-D, with everything to transform the traveler experience. Moreover, today’s users were very surprised by this advance: accustomed to having to finish their bottle of water in one go before throwing it away, they discovered that this was now no longer necessary. Innovative scanners indeed make it possible to view luggage in three dimensionsreducing the usual hassle of security checks… and above all, waiting time. “We have room for improvement in customer satisfaction. The ambition of hospitality is at the heart of our strategy and we do everything we can to provide the highest quality service possible to our customers”explained Edward Arkwright, executive director of Aéroports de Paris, to Parisian on April 1, 2023. In 2024, this is now the case!
Reduced transit time
In effect, these scanners eliminate the need for passengers to remove their electronic devices and liquids from their luggage, thereby reducing the time and complexity of procedures. Despite the progress made, not all travelers will immediately benefit from this technology. For the moment, they are only stationed in the entrance to Terminal 2B-D, but the airport plans to generalize 3D scanners on all lines at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle and Orly by 2028. This initiative, although taking time to be fully implemented, promises smoother traveler movement, particularly during peak periods such as the Olympics. Already, lines equipped with these scanners are significantly reducing waiting times. “According to our analyses, these scanners reduce the passage time by a quarter, from 120 to 90 seconds”, explains Régis Lacote, director of Paris Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle. An improvement which, although modest in appearance, radically transforms passenger perception.
