At only 23 kg, the folding longtail bike is also practical. But this Gocycle CXi and its CX+ version with folding handles are very expensive.
Gocycle had made an impact on electric bikes with its GX folding model, design, light and technological. The English firm had rested on its laurels since the launch of the Gocycle G4 in 2021, but is announcing a brand new bike.
A longtail bike… folding!
Contrary to what one might expect, the manufacturer is not going for the classic size bike, but for the electric cargo bike. His Gocycle CXi Family is a longtail like no other. This model is just as original, with the same base as the G4 with a carbon front single fork, the rear of which would have been lengthened to integrate a platform.
The latter “WingPillar Frame” (or pillar-wing chassis) serves as a luggage rack or to take toddlers with you. It’s surprising yes, its cherry wood and teak board meets the MIK HD type fixing standard for accessories. In total, the Gocycle cargo can even carry a load of up to 220 kg, which is remarkable for its compactness.
And remember, this bike is foldable! The CXi can be easily stored, or even transported, because the aluminum and carbon frame reduces the weight to just 23 kg. It’s similar to a regular electric bike.
A handlebar adjustable on 3 axes, integrating lights and screen
Another novelty, the English brand has developed a new handlebar “FloFit”. We find the indicator and lighting bar in the center, as well as the integrated wiring, but now with foldable handles. The latter are also adjustable to be either ergonomic and comfortable, or for a more sporty position. This special handlebar will have a price, since it duplicates the offer in the Gocycle CX+ version, which is much more expensive.
However, like the CXi, the electric recumbent bike will have the same G4Drive front motor, as well as a belt transmission with a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub. The non-removable battery in the frame still has a capacity of 375 Wh, or around 80 km of autonomy in eco mode.
Gocycle has no price limit…
Be careful, hold on tight for the price, because the Gocycle CXi is not cheap. It starts at 6,999 euros, and even 7,999 euros in the Gocycle CX+ variant.
This does not include baby carrying accessories, footrests, mudguards or wheel guards. At least the six two-tone liveries are nice. However, at 1,000 euros less, we find very high-end references for electric longtail bikes: Tern GSD, Riese & Müller MultiTinky, or even two-carriers such as Urban Arrow.
Available for pre-order, the Gocycle CXi and CX+ will begin deliveries in September 2024, “in very small quantities at launch”. A way to create scarcity, and push you to deposit 499 euros as a deposit today to be among the first owners.
