This competitor to the Model S Plaid gains even more autonomy with this new version

The Lucid Air, one of the main opponents of the Tesla Model S Plaid, continues to improve its formula. In fact, the manufacturer has just made several modifications to the Grand Touring version. As a result, the autonomy increases further and approaches 850 km.

Perhaps the name Lucid rings a bell. This American manufacturer of electric cars aims to become the benchmark for high-end, high-performance, wattage vehicles. Present in Europe since 2022, the brand is still slow to arrive in France.

While awaiting its launch in France, the company continues to develop its range. This April 17, 2024, the company announced news concerning the Lucid Air Grand Touring. As a reminder, this version comes in 3rd position in the Air range, just before the ultra high-end Air Sapphire model.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring improves its performance

This year, the Grand Touring will benefit from some improvements from the Sapphire designed in particular to improve its autonomy in extreme cold. If its overall radius of action remains unchanged, i.e. approximately 839 kilometers in the WLTP mixed cycle, it will be able to offer similar autonomy in extreme climatic situations thanks to the adoption of a new heat pump coming precisely from the Air Sapphire.

But that’s not all. Changes have been made to the Lucid Air Grand Touring’s proprietary engine design, battery cell chemistry, and thermal characteristics to reduce energy consumption during sustained and dynamic driving. Let us recall in passing that the Lucid Air Grand Touring is equipped with a 118 kWh battery which is based on an 800 V architecture. According to the manufacturer, these modifications have made it possible to improve the charging speed by 15 to 30% in direct current.

Still regarding recharging, the manufacturer has introduced a enhanced automatic preconditioning functionality, which allows the battery to be brought to an optimal temperature before being connected to a fast charging station. We find this type of technology among more and more manufacturers, such as Renault on the Mégane e-Tech for example.

As for the pure performance of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, it remains unchanged: 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds and a maximum speed of 329 km/h. Lucid has confirmed the launch of this revamped version in the United States, at the price of $109,900, or approximately 102,902 euros. As a reminder, the Tesla Model S Plaid is sold in France from €109,990 with its 600 km of autonomy in the WLTP mixed cycle.
