This connected lock unlocks with your fingerprint or your iPhone

The Chinese brand Lumi United has launched a new connected lock from the Aqara brand. The Smart Door Lock A100 Zigbee compiles a maximum of technology, from intrusion detection to authentication by fingerprint or code, through the use of Google Assistant or unlocking with the iPhone.

Installing a connected lock has not yet become commonplace in our regions. However, several models exist from the Linus Smart Lock from Yale to the Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 and other locks from China, such as the one expected from Xiaomi, or the one to come from Netatmo.

Still little known in France, Aqara offers multiple products for the connected home that often want to bring together the best of home automation and technology. This is the case of its new connected lock, the Smart Door Lock A100 Zigbee.

Approach your iPhone and open!

As its name suggests, it obviously works in Zigbee 3.0, but not only. It is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 as well as HomeKit and Google Home. But its strength is elsewhere. It embeds NFC technology and can therefore be unlocked using your iPhone or Apple Watch using the Apple Home Key function.

Its design is quite elegant, even if quite extensive. Inside, we typically find a handle and a locking button below to manage the opening, closing or night latch of the door. On the upper part, a wide surface hides the batteries. The manufacturer announces an autonomy of 18 months at the price, however, of a cargo of on-board batteries (8!).

On the back, the Smart Dock Lock A100 has a touch screen representing a code pad on the top which appears when you press, a classic handle with embedded fingerprint reader on its lower part which has a cover to put the key. Everything is in dark metal.

Nine security methods

It is possible to configure a one-time code for a family member or an occasional visitor who will only have to type it in to unlock the door. Aqara even offers nine ways to lock-unlock the lock (voice, smartphone, NFC, unique or permanent code, etc.), because it is also possible to use the companion application for this or simply your traditional key. To facilitate the secure closing of the premises, shortcut buttons are available on the keyboard.

Obviously, the most secure method promoted by the manufacturer is digital recognition with the positioning of the sensor within reach of the thumb for more security and fast unlocking promised. But different usage options are available such as automatic locking after your departure, the night latch to secure residents without preventing administrators with a code from being able to enter later, an alert button if the door is left open too long or if an intrusion attempt is detected (unusual opening behavior).

For its operation, Aqara is in the classic. You must have a Zigbee 3.0 compatible hub to control and manage the lock remotely. It connects to home wi-fi. You can ask Siri or Google Assistant to check if the door is closed and secure while being away from home.

Price and availability of the Aqara Smart Door Lock A100 Zigbee lock

For the moment, the Aqara lock is not yet marketed in Europe. It is first planned in Malaysia and Singapore, then in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. No prices or availability for France have been communicated.
