Sergio Corbucci, Enzo G. Castellari, without forgetting of course Quentin Tarantino: there are countless filmmakers who have lent themselves to the exercise of telling the story of Django. Brought up to date in 2012 thanks to Django Unchained, this classic gets a new look this year in a series. After The Night where Laurier Gaudreault woke up, branded Xavier Dolan, CANAL+ lifts the veil on its brand new Original Creation.

Simply called Django, this unprecedented adaptation of the western marks the first foray of the Original Creation into this emblematic genre of cinema. The 10 episodes immerse us in 1872.

While the Civil War is over and slavery is no longer legally permitted, racial tensions remain in the United States. A sort of egalitarian utopia, the fictional city of New Babylon is where many Americans have taken up residence to escape racism… but is this haven of peace really one?

Offering a resolutely contemporary reinterpretation, this very large production features an international cast, headed by Matthias Schoenaerts (De rouille et d’os). Made for this emblematic role, he portrays the solitary, mysterious and tormented cowboy, alongside personalities such as Noomi Rapace (Millenium), Lisa Vicari (Dark), or even Nicholas Pinnock (Captain America: First Avenger).

A starry cast that we also find behind the camera, since the script was entrusted to Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli, to whom we owe ZeroZeroZero. Italian filmmaker Francesca Comencini (Gomorrah) is directing, while Italian group Mokadelic is behind the music. See you on CANAL+ on February 13!
