To mark its 80th anniversary, furniture and home accessories brand IKEA has chosen to mark the occasion by going through its archives and reissuing more modern versions of some of its cult best-sellers. Take a look at this armchair from the iconic Swedish brand that’s been given a new lease of life!
In 2023, the furniture and home accessories giant, Ikea, celebrated its 80th birthday. An anniversary that it wanted to celebrate by releasing a brand new collection that resurrects iconic pieces from the Swedish brand. A strategy deployed over several months, in several waves, during which reissues of iconic furniture and accessories that have made IKEA catalogs successful since its creation in 1943 are released one after the other. A collection called Nytillverkad, which can be translated into French as “newly manufactured” and which has some nice surprises in store.

The Swedish brand is riding this new retro trend by banking on nostalgia for this iconic anniversary. It is giving many of the cult furniture and accessories in its catalog a little makeover, notably by using more modern materials, but above all by selecting a very “eighties” color chart that will not fail to energize your interior despite their timeless design. Tables, chairs, textiles and even accessories, the Nytillverkad collection revisits its signature pieces from the brand’s heritage, like the iconic POÄNG armchair.
The POÄNG armchair: a cult piece from the IKEA catalogue
While we recently told you about this second piece sold with the POÄNG armchair, the KLIPPAN sofa, it is time to highlight this flagship product of the IKEA range. If these two pieces were imagined by the Japanese designer, Noburu Nakamura, in the 70s, he was also able to sign their reissues just before his death in 2023. Reissues that he wanted to be much more dynamic, modern while playing on primary colors that undoubtedly recall the acidulous interiors of this era.

With its explosion of pop colors, the POÄNG armchair from the IKEA brand has retained a great reputation that it had never lost for more than forty years! With its curved wood that makes the seat solid and comfortable, the POÄNG armchair adapts to the shape of your body for even more flexibility while its footrest ensures even more comfort. It was exactly in 1976 that the POÄNG armchair came out for the first time, it became one of the cult pieces of furniture in the brand’s catalog since it was going to be sold in millions of copies. Today, the range is getting a facelift thanks to new dynamic primary colors, all for less than 80 euros! A bargain!

Pieces that have marked generations
The KLIPPAN sofa and the POÄNG armchair followed a first batch of furniture and objects that were all released during the year 2023-2024. If we were treated to the flashy version of the LÖVET tables, it was also the DOMSTEN stool or the multi-vitamin KRYPKORNELL pattern from the 80s. A timeless collection that pays homage to simplicity while following the brand’s historical strategy, that is to say affordable prices that suit all budgets.
This unprecedented campaign began in July 2023 and will end by the end of 2024. In the meantime, retro and vintage design have been all the rage in recent years.
