This daddy launched a swimwear line for little transgender girls

In support of his transgender daughter, this father decided to launch a range of swimwear to make all little girls feel comfortable at the pool or at the beach.

A great dad. In Canada, Jamie Alexander, a high-tech entrepreneur and father to baby Ruby, 12, transgender, has decided to start his own brand of swimwear for her. In transition from the age of 9, she often wore board shorts and sweatpants in place of traditional swimsuits. At the age of 11, Ruby expressed a wish to wear a bikini. Problem: Classic swimsuits did not fully conceal her genitals.

In February 2020, and after interacting with many parents of transgender girls, Jamie set out to create an inclusive swimwear brand, Rubies, in reference to her daughter. "I wanted to design clothes that felt and looked the same as the clothes my daughter's cisgender friends wear.", he told Insider. Made from "compression spandex and mesh", sizes are available for ages 4-24. According to the brand's website, they are designed so that there is no "no need to go home" (his genitals, nldr).

A very good influence

This initiative, necessary, but at the very least singular, did not fail to produce its effect. Jessica Herthel, children's book co-writer I Am Jazz with transgender activist Jazz Jennings, even recently promoted it on the Today show. According to her, "Clothing brands like Rubies can have a positive impact on transgender children and their families". She continues: "Being able to do something that most of us take for granted – which is going for a swim without fear of being stared at or teased, or even targeted – can give a child a sense of normalcy and belonging."

And indeed, this type of clothing not only makes transgender girls more comfortable at the beach or the pool, but also makes them feel like everyone else, which is very important. Jamie Alexander is delighted that his daughter is actively participating in the development of the brand. “She models samples, gives her opinion on samples and approves all products before they go on sale.” A proud and admirable dad, whose beautiful proof of love to his daughter can only be saluted.
