It was announced in 2020, but is still waiting… Tiana, the animated series adapted from the Disney classic The Princess and the Frog is still in preparation at Disney+, and we finally have news via Variety.

We now learn that the series should be broadcast on Disney+ next year, according to Joyce Sherri, showrunner and director of the adaptation. A 180° turnaround for the screenwriter who previously worked on the horror series Midnight Sermons by Mike Flanagan. She has also written and directed several short films.

The series has previously been described as a sequel to the 2009 animated film, The Princess and the Frog, which introduced the character Tiana. Anika Noni Rose (seen in the flesh in The Good Wife and Power among others) will once again lend her voice to the character of Tiana who “sets off on a grand new adventure as the newly crowned princess of MaldoniaBut soon, a call to her past in New Orleans surfaces and throws her off course.

The series was originally scheduled to premiere in 2023, but is now expected to launch in 2024. Nathan Curtis will executive produce the series, while Jennifer Lee and Stella Meghie will executive produce.

Series sequels to films such as Zootopia, The New Heroes, Cars and Moana were also announced by Disney+. The first three have already been broadcast, while Moana, a series which takes place in the small Polynesian village of Vaiana, is still awaiting its launch.

Just like the live-action remake of the film starring Dwayne Johnson which is still in production.
