By injecting aluminum from recycled coffee capsules, the electric VTC from the Swiss manufacturer Miloo innovates with its manufacturing method. Presentation.
To green their manufacturing, electric bike manufacturers do not lack imagination. When a Hyboo or Möbius turns to wood, others choose the recycled aluminum solution. But not just any one.
The Miloo brand announces an upcoming electric bike, the frame and rims of which are made from recycled Nespresso aluminum coffee capsules. The Xplorer Beast model will therefore replace its carbon frame and adorn it with the brand’s logo, for a limited edition planned for March 2024 in a speedbike version. “With Miloo, we want to challenge soft mobility players to develop even more credible and environmentally friendly vehicles, capable of replacing cars.»says co-founder Anna Bory on SeesichtMagazin.
This is not a first, however, because another non-electric bike had based its reputation on the recycling of Nespresso capsules. It was the 2019 Vélosophy Re: Cycle, a muscular city dweller from Sweden. Miloo will, however, further push the greening of the VAE. It provides tires, saddle, painted handles as well as packaging made from recycled materials.
A Swiss-powered e-MTB
Here, the Zurich electric bike is not purely urban: it is a sturdy VTC. The Miloo Xplorer Beast is “made for Switzerland” like the local brand, and in particular for its Alps. With its double suspension, its 160 Nm Bafang M620 engine, its 1,008 Wh battery and its huge Maxxis tires, it wants to go everywhere and far.
The bike, however, retains some notions of versatility, with its 14-speed Kindernay hub transmission (optional chain or belt) and possible equipment (mudguards, luggage rack). A speedbike version is also available, limited to 45 km/h but with specific regulations. The Miloo Xplorer Beast starts at 10,899 Swiss francs, or around 11,650 euros.
