This evening on TV: an experience like only cinema can offer

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. This evening: a film shot over 12 years.

In the summer of 2002, Richard Linklater launched a crazy project that he had been considering for a long time: to tell the story of a parent-child relationship over a long period. This is how Boyhood was born, shot intermittently (about three or four days a year) with the same actors and the same technical team, until 2013.

We therefore follow the young Mason (Ellar Coltrane, who greatly contributed to the writing and development of his character) from his 6th birthday until his majority, surrounded by his sister (Lorelei Linklater) and his mother ( Patricia Arquette), separated from her father (Ethan Hawke).

Through its unique artistic approach, as documentary as it is experimental, Boyhood captures the spirit of the times (the soundtrack is notably composed of titles and musical successes that resonated in our ears at the same time), embracing a universal truth that touches full heart.

Silver Bear at the 2014 Berlinale, Boyhood is Richard Linklater’s best-rated feature film on AlloCiné with an average viewer rating of 4.2 out of 5.
