Released in 1975, The Three Days of the Condor is one of the flagship films of New Hollywood. This American cinematographic movement, largely influenced by European modernity (French New Wave and Italian neorealism), is characterized in particular by the radical representation of themes hitherto taboo, such as the corruption of political powers, sexuality and violence.
Adapted from the novel by James Grady, The Six Days of the Condorwhose plot was slightly modified by the screenwriters to reinforce its political aspect, the feature film is in line with the thrillers Because of an assassination and Secret conversation, reflecting the climate of paranoia caused by the scandal of Watergate in the United States.
Behind the camera, Sydney Pollack directs, for their fourth collaboration, Robert Redford in the main role. The latter slips into the skin of Joseph Turner, a secret agent responsible for finding leaks in the methods of the CIA, soon faced with the assassination of all his colleagues. In his race against time to shed light on this tragedy, he meets Kathy Hale (Faye Dunaway), a freelance photographer who agrees to help him in his investigation.
