This evening on TV: the most cult of Belgian comedies

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a cult Belgian comedy.

Olivier Van Hoofstadt’s first feature film, Dikkenek marks EuropaCorp’s first co-production with Belgium. The cast is thus essentially dominated by French actors including Marion Cotillard, Catherine Jacob, Mélanie Laurent, Dominique Pinon or the comedian Florence Foresti who is making her film debut.

Brussels expression, “Dikkenek” means a “big neck” in Flemish, that is to say, a “big mouth”, a “know-it-all”. Here, he is played by JC (Jean-Luc Couchard), who takes pleasure in giving lessons to anyone who crosses his path. At his side, a certain François Damiens, revealed to the French public through cult replicas.

With a budget of 2.5 million euros, Dikkenek is a bitter failure at the box office when it was released in 2006 since it totaled only 768,350 euros in revenue. However, it has become, over time, an essential film in the Belgian comedy department. Caricatural, completely crossed out and above all very funny, Dikkenek is a classic for those who want to laugh in front of a Belgian humor once!
