This evening on TV: this adventure film was released in theaters 32 years ago, but it has lost nothing in humor and effectiveness

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a legendary tale told in a popular movie that hasn’t aged a bit!

A Kevin film starring Kevin: Kevin Reynolds and Kevin Costner reunite here after the actor auditioned to play in the director’s graduation film (unsuccessful) and after their collaboration on Une Bringue d’enfer in 1985 (Finally). become friends, Kevin Reynolds even served as a technical advisor on Dances with Wolves that Kevin Costner realized a little before Robin des Bois. The duo will meet again a few years later for Waterworld.

In Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, the year is 1193. After escaping from a dungeon where they were held captive during the Crusades, Robin and Azeem, a Moorish warrior, return to the island of Britain to find that the former’s native lands have been destroyed and his father was murdered. The culprit: the Sheriff of Nottingham who is trying to seize the throne from Richard the Lionheart, held captive by the Austrians. Considered an outlaw, Robin flees to Sherwood Forest which is home to a band of brigands also banished from their villages by the same man. Determined to take revenge, he joins forces with them to challenge the terrible Sheriff.

The 1991 adventure film, inspired by the famous English folk tale from the 12th century, has become, over time, a classic in its own right. Although the film originally received mixed reviews, audiences were won over by its humor and effectiveness. At its output, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves is indeed a real success at the box office, bringing in more than $390 million worldwide. A figure that made him the second most profitable film of the year.

Critics have however agreed to praise the performances of Morgan Freeman (Azeem) and Alan Rickman who steal the show here from Kevin Costner. Alan Rickman received the BAFTA for best actor in a supporting role for his interpretation of the famous Sheriff of Nottingham.

And we shouldn’t forget the film’s flagship song, which perhaps even surpassed the fame of the latter: “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” by Bryan Adams was nominated for the Oscar for best original song. and won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media – plus it’s forever etched in our memories!

Having cradled the young years of many, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves now has a special place in the hearts of spectators. Thirty-two years later, we invite you to discover it if you haven’t already, or to rediscover it for a little return to the past, as nostalgic as you wish.
