This evening on TV: with a rating of 1.3 out of 5, it is one of the worst films of the 2000s

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: one of Halle Berry’s career regrets.

In 2003, just crowned the Oscar for Best Actress for In the Shadow of Hatred, Halle Berry was offered her first starring role in Catwoman. Very proud to participate in a film in which a woman has the power (in her own words), the actress trains intensively in order to express the feline nature of her character through her gestures.

If the intention of the director, the French Pitof, is noble – to treat a multidimensional superheroine and avoid making a simple sex bomb – the production quickly goes wrong.

Passed through the hands of 28 screenwriters, the story is far removed from the Catwoman created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in the comics of the 1940s. Selina Kyle is replaced by a certain Patience Philips, who discovers powers by resurrecting from his assassination ordered by his employer.

Released in 2004, the film was a commercial disaster. With 82 million dollars in worldwide receipts, it does not repay its budget of 100 million. Besides, catwoman receives negative reviews, which consider it one of the worst films ever made.

Nominated seven times at the 25th Razzie Awards ceremony, the feature film won the Worst Film, Worst Actress, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay Awards. Rare fact, John Rogers, one of the screenwriters, and Halle Berry came to collect them in person. The actress then broke into a speech full of self-mockery.

With an average rating of 1.3/5, catwoman is one of the most poorly rated films of the 2000s by AlloCiné viewers.
