Imprisoned since 2003 for the murder of two North American tourists, the one who was performed by Tahar Rahim, companion of Leïla Bekhti, is 78 years old today. Like Jeffrey Dahmer, he would be responsible for the deaths of several people throughout Asia during the 1970s. twenty victims in total.

After a difficult childhood, he had spent several periods in prison in France for small crimes, before traveling around the world, notably in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand in which he raged.

According to AFP, Charles Sobhraj should be released for health reasons. A copy of the verdict reads: “To keep him continuously in prison is not in conformity with the human rights of the prisoner”. Requiring open-heart surgery, the serial killer could benefit from a release, in accordance with Nepalese law concerning bedridden prisoners who have served three quarters of their sentence. “If there are no other cases pending against him to keep him in prison, this court orders his release today and (…) the return to his country within fifteen days”, perhaps so we read.

The date of his release from Kathmandu Central Prison is scheduled for today after his appearance in court for administrative formalities.

It was for the murder of an American tourist in 1975 that he was sentenced to life imprisonment : Connie Jo Bronzich. He was also found guilty ten years more of the murder of the Canadian companion of his victim.
