This French film is a hit on Prime Video and dethrones Citadel

This French film created a sensation a few days after its launch on Prime Video and you have surely missed it.

It was a sure hit. Prime Video has put the odds on its side with its new original French film by betting on Franck Gastambide. The actor – but also director to whom we owe Les Kaïra, Pattaya and Taxi 5 in particular – did not skimp on the means with Medellin.

He takes us, alongside his faithful acolytes Anouar Toubali and Ramzy Bedia, to Colombia, in the footsteps of the biggest drug traffickers.

Here’s what it’s about: Pablito is a young Youtuber, fascinated by Pablo Escobar. He decides to realize his dream by going to Medellin in the footsteps of the drug baron. A few days later, it is through a video posted on his social networks, that the world discovers that Pablito is in the hands of dangerous narcos, who demand a huge ransom to free him. “Plata o Plomo!”.

But what the Narcos don’t know is that Pablito has a big brother and that big brother has a plan as simple as it is completely insane: to assemble a team, to raid Colombia to face the men of the cartel and bring back his healthy little brother. and except.

But this story is only a pretext to offer us a 2-hour action film, between chases in narrow alleys and on the roofs of Barrio Escobar, fights and explosions.

This cocktail seems to have pleased Prime Video subscribers who placed Medellin first in the top 24 hours after its release. He thus dethroned the Citadel spy series, which had held pole position for several weeks.

While Medellin does quite well on the platform, it receives mixed reviews from press and viewers. With a score of 2/5 on AlloCiné, Gastambide’s film has as many fans as detractors, but most agree on the solidity of the production:

“The action scenes are very well put together, the tension is present and the story holds up. We are not bored at all. I was expecting a film that was more comical, but not at all.“ (Yetcha)

“It’s a Gastambide film, it’s in its line with special effects worthy of American blockbusters. We have a good time watching this film”. (Noam???? D)

“Amazon Prime Video has pulled out all the stops in terms of budget and it shows! A funny and effective action comedy just the way we like them with a cast of actors at the top who don’t take themselves seriously. Some nice emotional moments too. The whole thing is rhythmic, super well done and the lines hit the mark. In addition, the images of Colombia are very beautiful. A good time guaranteed!”(lyah)

“[…] Probably his best film, but hey, it’s not difficult to go after Taxi 5 or Pattaya, which were really horrible. The realization is simplistic but not really horrible, the few car races are very good, the rest is forgettable. (Toino)

If Franck Gastambide’s previous productions didn’t thrill me more than that, “Medellin” starts surprisingly well with well-crafted chases and funny scenes, but the film struggles to go the distance because of a minimalist scenario. .” (AM11)

It remains to be seen whether Medellin will be able to equal the record for Overdose, the most viewed Prime Video French film in the world according to the platform (which never shares the number of views).
