“This Golden Globe is historic”: Lily Gladstone delivers a powerful speech after her victory for Killers of the Flower Moon

Lily Gladstone, heroine of “Killers of the Flower Moon”, won a historic Golden Globe! She is the first indigenous actress to be crowned Best Actress.

Released in theaters on October 18, Killers of the Flower Moon revealed an actress of remarkable intensity: Lily Gladstone. At the 81st Golden Globe Awards, the 37-year-old actress won the trophy for Best Actress in a Drama.

Favorite in this category, she notably beat Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Annette Bening (Unsinkable) or Carey Mulligan (Maestro). This award is historic for the Golden Globes!

Indeed, of Blackfeet Native American origin, Lily Gladstone is the first indigenous actress to win the supreme statuette.

Very moved and radiant, the actress dedicated her award to all children on reserves in search of representation. When announcing her victory, Lily Gladstone hugged her acting partner in Killers of the Flower Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio, before going on stage. She began her speech speaking the Blackfeet language, then giving her thanks in English.

“I have difficulty finding the words. This Golden Globe is truly historic but above all it belongs to my community; it does not belong only to me, it also belongs to my sisters, to my mother”declared the actress before paying tribute to Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. “You changed my life, you were true allies for me”she confided.

“I thank the wonderful Blackfeet community who raised me, who encouraged me to continue, to continue my work. Even though she is not Blackfeet, my mother worked tirelessly to have this language taught in our classrooms class, so I had a Blackfeet language teacher growing up.”revealed the artist.

“This award is also for all the Indigenous children on reserves who are not represented and who want their stories and their lives to be. We must trust each other. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts”concluded Lily Gladstone before receiving a standing ovation.

As a reminder, the actress plays Mollie Burkhart, wife of Ernest (DiCaprio) in Killers of the Flower Moon. The young woman is an Indian from the Osage tribe who made her fortune in the 1920s thanks to oil. The money will attract the desire of William Hale (De Niro), who will use his nephew Ernest to get his hands on Mollie’s inheritance.
