The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will adopt the customizable Action button, which was exclusive to the Pro models on the previous generation. Other details about Apple’s upcoming devices are also confirmed through a video.
The design of the iPhone 16 is revealed a little more through an indiscretion from the leaker Ice Universe. In a video published on X, he shows off a case for a future Apple smartphone. We understand that this is not a Pro model since the protection only offers two spaces for the photo sensors. It can therefore be either the iPhone 16 or the iPhone 16 Plus, with a slight preference for the latter given the size that this case seems to adopt (the hand that holds it can be used as a ladder).
What is interesting here is that we see a new protrusion on the left edge, alongside the volume keys. This will probably accommodate the Action button, introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. Previous leaks already mentioned the possibility of seeing it land on standard models, the video (available at the end of the article) confirms this.
An action button and a capture key for the iPhone 16
As a reminder, the Action button is customizable and acts as a shortcut to launch often used commands more quickly. It can be used to activate or deactivate Silent mode (it replaces the old Ring/Silent button) or a concentration mode, to open the Camera app, to activate or deactivate the flashlight, to start or stop recording a voice memo, open the Loupe app, start a translation, open an app, run a programmed shortcut, or access an accessibility feature. Other actions will be possible with iOS 16.
The shell of this iPhone 16 (Plus) also reveals a hole on the right edge for another new button, placed under the start key. This would be the capture button, which has been talked about for some time. Still mysterious, it should be useful for taking photos, zooming or focusing without having to touch the screen. With the protection shown in the video, it would be left out in the open, suggesting that using it requires more precision than other buttons.
