Do you already see yourself taking off from the garden in a vertical take-off e-plane and flying to work? The CEO of the Swedish eVTOL brand Jetson demonstrates it in a video.

The abbreviation eVTOL stands for “electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft” and describes a trend in the aviation industry. Even industry giants like Boeing are getting involved. The maneuverable aircraft usually only offer space for one person and are still limited in their range. Still, they could one day provide serious transportation options.

Jetson co-founder Tomasz Patan set out to demonstrate that small e-flying devices are even suitable for commuting. He now flew to work in a Jetson One eVTOL, which has a total of eight rotors.

However, his starting situation cannot be compared with a realistic everyday commuter life. The flight starts in an area with no direct neighbors and only leads over a wooded area. In addition, the battery range of the aircraft is limited. Flights that last longer than twenty minutes are not yet possible.

Regardless of such questions, the flight in such an eVTOL seems to be fun, at least for the company owner. The Jetson One is controlled with the help of joysticks. Autonomous flying is not intended, but numerous safety features such as a roll cage are installed.

Should one of the eight electric motors fail during the flight, this is not a problem either. The built-in LiDAR help against collisions with trees. Charging the empty battery is pleasantly quick in one to two hours.
