Android smartphones have long included the ability to screen share to a Google Cast TV or a Chromecast. This is very practical for displaying a photo slideshow or quickly sharing information with a workgroup. Unfortunately, Samsung, the most popular brand on the market, is stepping aside on this function by pushing Smart View. A technology integrated into its televisions and based on the Miracast standard. It’s practical, but it’s far from being as universal and easy to access as Google Cast compatibility.

Fortunately, the site Android Police discovered a hidden option to enable compatibility with Google Cast in a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

How to activate Google Cast on a Samsung Galaxy?

Enabling this option is quite easy and has been tested with at least OneUI 5.1.

  • Long press “ Smart View in your notification panel
  • Open the menu with three dots and choose to open settings
  • At the very bottom of the screen, choose “ about smart view »
  • Tap the text ” Smart View » 10 times in a row
  • Enter password: #00rtsp00
  • When opening the developer menu, enable ” Google Cast “.

With these steps, the smartphone will be able to discover Google Cast compatible devices on the local network. These are either Google Chromecast devices or TVs that directly integrate Google Cast. This is the case of televisions under Android TV for example.

Hopefully Samsung will one day come up with an easier-to-access setting for a handy feature like this. In the meantime, this little guide has the merit of not having to be repeated for each connection. Once Google Cast is activated, the smartphone retains this setting.
